Swedish Meatballs |
Saturday, June 30, 2007 |
Swedish Meatballs is one of my dear hubby's favorite dish. And since he's off from work today, I decided to have this for lunch.
Ingredients:
1 egg
1 c. soft bread crumbs (2 slices bread)
1 tsp. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. milk
Cooking oil
Sour Cream Sauce (see below)
Boiled potatoes or hot cooked noodles
Minced parsley for garnish
Sour Cream Sauce (see below)
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 c. beef broth
1/2 tsp. salt
Dash cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 c. (1/2 pt.) dairy sour cream, room temperature
Directions:
1. Blend ground beef, egg and bread crumbs thoroughly with brown sugar, salt, pepper, ginger, ground cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon and milk. Form into 12 meatballs. Fry in hot oil, about 1-inch deep, until fully cooked, turning only once.
2. Drain on paper towels. Prepare Sour Cream Sauce.
3. Fold meatballs into sauce. Spoon into a chafing dish, stainless steel or enamel pan.
4. Heat gently to serving temperature.
5. Serve with boiled potatoes or hot noodles. Garnish with minced parsley.
Sour Cream Sauce:
Pour all excess-oil from fry pan. Add butter to brownings. Stir in flour and cook until bubbly. Add broth, salt, cayenne pepper and Worcestershire sauce; cook, stirring until thickened and bubbly. Empty sour cream into a large bowl. Gradually add sauce, stirring constantly.

this sounds so yummy! I'll have to save it and give it a try! I'm tired of cooking the same things over and again! :)
