The other day, I stumbled upon one of my favorite books while I was cleaning my room. It was a collection of short stories and poems from some of the most recent up and coming American authors.
However, the day was definitely worth it, as I was reminded of how inspirational I found many of these stories to be. I found myself captivated by the use of language that many of the authors employed, while I was also simply enthralled by the depth of their characters. I quickly got caught up in many other worlds, some far away and some that I could have experienced myself, only to realize that I couldn't wait to start writing some of these stories on my own. I've always loved the form of the short story, as well as the essay, and I believe it's a very powerful form of expression. I sat down to write right away and found that the story I'd had in the back of my head for the past few weeks simply poured out.
After I was finished, I decided I'd done enough work for the day and went downstairs to watch some Satalite tv. Needless to say, my room still needs cleaning - so I suppose I'll tackle that project again next weekend.
